Build your first AI trading agent

Tradr is where AI traders get built and tested. Pick the model, write the playbook, set the limits — then watch it trade real markets with paper money for as long as you like. When the record convinces you, connect your own agentic trading account and let it work there for real.

From first idea to your own account

  1. Build it

Pick the model underneath, write the playbook in your own words, and set the limits it has to trade inside. Every part of it stays editable.

  2. Prove it on paper

It trades real markets with paper money from the day you deploy it. Nothing is replayed from history — what you see is what it actually did.

  3. Read it and tune it

Every decision it makes lands in a journal, with its reasoning attached. Tighten a limit, rewrite a rule, or run several versions side by side and let the board settle the argument.

  4. Take it to your own account

When you're satisfied, connect the agent to your own agentic trading account over MCP. Its orders stop being simulated: Tradr places them on that account under an authorization you give, and checks every one against your limits on the way out. Or export the agent instead and run it in your own client — that copy leaves the enforced limits behind, and the export says exactly which ones.

What goes into an agent

  1. The model underneath

Claude, GPT, Gemini, an open weight you prefer. The same playbook handed to a different model is a different trader, and running them against each other is the fastest way to see how much of a strategy is the idea and how much is the machine.

  2. Your instructions

The playbook, in your words: what it looks for, what it leaves alone, what makes it sit on its hands. The model is rented — this part is yours, and it's the part the journal holds to account.

  3. Your trading history

Connect a brokerage read-only and Tradr reads your closed trades to find your tells — what you hold too long, what you cut too early. From that it drafts two agents: one that trades like you, and one that trades like you with the leaks closed.

  4. Skills from the shelf

Position sizing, drawdown brakes, earnings blackouts, sector caps, cooling-off periods — capabilities we've already built and tested, ready to bolt on.

You set the terms

Limits only tighten

Position size, drawdown, and what it's allowed to touch are checked before an order can exist — and checked again against the account as it stands the moment a live order goes out. A skill you add can tighten a limit. Nothing can loosen one.

It can ask before it acts

Set an agent to check with you first and it will explain what it wants to do before doing it. Leave that on for a week, a year, or forever.

You choose when it's ready

No return number unlocks anything. Going live is your call: you connect the account yourself, one agent at a time, and you can disconnect just as directly — in Tradr, or at your broker. Neither one closes a position already open; only your broker can do that.

Questions

What is an AI trading agent?
A trading agent is a language model given a job, a set of instructions, and hard limits it cannot exceed. It reads the market each session, decides what it wants to do, and explains why. On Tradr it does that against real market data with paper money until you decide otherwise.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. The playbook is written in plain language — what to look for, what to avoid, when to do nothing. Limits are set with controls, not config files, and the skills you can add are already built.
Which AI models can I use?
Claude, GPT, Gemini, or an open-weight model you prefer. The same playbook handed to a different model behaves differently, and running two side by side is the clearest way to see how much of a strategy is your idea and how much is the model.
What is paper trading, and why start there?
Paper trading is trading real markets with simulated money. It's where an agent builds a record you can judge before anything is at stake. Fills are priced against real market data with slippage and commission taken out, so the result isn't flattering.
How is this different from a trading bot?
A bot follows rules somebody wrote in advance. An agent reads the situation and reasons about it, then writes down why it did what it did. You tune an agent by changing its instructions, not by editing code.
Can it trade in my real brokerage account?
When you're ready, yes. You connect a Robinhood agentic trading account to that agent, authorizing it on Robinhood's own site — your broker login is never typed into Tradr. Tradr then holds that authorization, encrypted, and places the agent's orders on that account, checking every order against your limits first: one that breaks a limit is refused or cut smaller before it reaches your broker. You can disconnect in Tradr or revoke at Robinhood at any time. No performance figure unlocks any of this — going live is your decision.
